Three new friends came along tonight which was great for us all. We hope you will all be back at the end of January to talk about Doris Lessing (book to still be decided).
Roll call for the evening
Anne, Nicole*, Marie Christine*, Benjamin*, Alain, Jacques, Simone, Michelle and me
*new to group.
The Dumb Waiter kindled a lively discussion between us all. Everyone's views were thought provoking and inspiring.
What isn't said in Pinter plays, the absurdity in the acts, the positions of characters (victim verses victor), interpretation of this play like a work of modern art, were all cases in point.
As for Bernard Marie Koltés, I, myself had difficulty getting into this play. I suppose I thought it was going to be of the same style as Pinter, however that wasn't to be the case. When I have finished the book (yes yes I am still reading it) I will post my views.
Before I had chance to get around to updating our blog since our get-together, Friday, Dearest Jacques posted a summary of our evening in messages, I thought his thoughts deserved to be posted directly on the blog(unedited of course).
Thanks Jacques everything, you are quite a guy....don't forget the chocolate pizza one day..lol
By the way Jacques wins the prize for posting first.
Update: Nicole is in second place with her input. Thanks Nicole....Do I have a second prize...lol
What did she say, find out after reading Jacques review.
What about Harold pinter ?
We have narrowed down the orginal list of four titles to two, so hopefully we will all have enough time to read
The Dumb Waiter by Harold Pinter
and
Quai Ouest by Bernard Marie Koltés ( in French or English)
Good luck
